What’s A Stuffy Nose?

A stuffy nose is a health problem that affects many people. This condition is in fact a nasal congestion, occurring when the nasal passage, adjacent tissues and blood vessels swell and get clogged with excess fluid. There are many different causes, starting from allergies, to colds, sinusitis, reactions to certain drugs and other.

Stuffy nose gives a feeling as if the whole nose is filled with something. The well-known “stuffy” feeling. But, the symptoms may include some other problems as well, such as runny nose and difficulties breathing through the nose, and at night, snoring.


As we mention above, there are many different causes of nasal congestion. Mainly, everything that inflames or irritates the tissues of the nose can cause it. Thus, if the congestion lasts for more than 10 days, accompanied with a green or yellow discharge, fever, sinus pain or even blood, it may indicate a bacterial infection. Consult your doctor immediately, for proper diagnosis and treatment.

How To Clear A Stuffy Nose Fast

Many people believe that chicken soup is an excellent remedy for nasal congestion. Adding chili peppers in the chicken soup will additionally help you open the sinuses and reduce the inflammation. Other spicy foods can also help you with this condition.

An inhalation with menthol essential oil can temporarily open the nasal mucosa. Or rubbing your nose with Vicks Vaporub. Then, drinking hot beverages, especially green tea, can help you unclog the nose. Avoid coffee and other caffeinated beverages because they can only make the situation worse.

Hot showers also help with a stuffy nose, as the steam opens up the nasal passages.

Tomato juice helps open the sinuses and it gives the body a large dose of vitamin C, which improves the overall immunity. Garlic on the other hand, fights infections. Make a hot garlic sauce and serve it warm, with your favorite dishes.
