The prevention of iodine deficiency is very simple. Daily intake of iodine in sufficient amounts – 150 micrograms. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding the minimum daily intake of iodine should be 300 micrograms. Food with a higher amount of iodine such as fresh sea fish (sardines, salmon, cod, and sturgeon) and sea weed. In iodized salt, the percentage of iodine is not constant. That’s why you should always pay attention to the amount of iodine in salt. Good source of iodine is mineral water with naturally dissolved iodine because the organism can easier use the iodine from the water than from the food.
