How Beneficial Are Ripe Bananas For The Human Health?

The change in color of bananas is not just superficial. Namely, during this transition, the enzymes of the banana turn the starch into sugar, making it more palatable, healthier and much easier for digestion. Ripe bananas have increased levels of antioxidants, help improve the immune system and promote proper digestion. Also, a fully ripe banana, covered with brown spots, produces a substance known as the Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), which poses abilities that fight against cells that have abnormal behavior, such as the tumor cells. The more brown spots a banana has, the more powerful it is when it comes to killing tumor cells.

Ripe bananas, covered in brown spots, have more enriched cells, more carbohydrates, vitamins, carotene and minerals, all of which help develop and strengthen the immunity. Also, this is when they are best for digestion, as the starch and sugar are easily processed and absorbed, unlike in green bananas.

In the course of conducting a study on bananas, Japanese scientists have come to the conclusion that bananas with brown spots are eight times healthier than the green bananas, or some other fruits. For example, when compared to grapes, apples, watermelons, pineapples and pears, ripe bananas showed to contain the largest amount of anti-cancer substances.

Therefore, according to this study, it is best, and much more health beneficial to eat bananas when they are fully ripe and covered with brown spot here and there. It’s recommendable to eat one to two bananas a day, in order to fully utilize the benefits that they have to offer.
