Water makes up more than 70 percent of a human body. A fair amount of water and good hydration is necessary to help digestion, flush out toxins and maintain healthy skin. The normal human body loses water throughout the day, mostly through sweating and urinating, but usually, you return it through foods and drinks.
Even though it’s wintertime and you are not sweating that much, dehydration can still occur and become a problem.
Recognize The Dehydration Symptoms
Dehydration is a very serious health problem that can affect people of all ages. People should recognize signs of dehydration, as this can prevent major problems.
Dehydration is a state that occurs when someone loses more liquid than they consume and thus disturb the susceptible balance of minerals in body fluids. It is an abnormal state in which the body cells are deprived of sufficient amounts of water.
The symptoms of dehydration differ depending on its severity. The first response of the body to dehydration is thirst (the body wants to increase the intake of water), then reduced urination (the body is trying to preserve the fluid) and the dark colored urine. But, the problem is that you are already dehydrated at the time when these signs appear. There are more and more symptoms of dehydration, such as:
- Frequent headaches and migraines
- Dry mouth and dry tongue
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dry eyes
- Reduced sweating
- Dry skin and lips
- Muscle cramps especially in the arms and legs
- Increased body temperature
- Tiredness or weakness
- Fast heart rate
Thirst is not a reliable signal that you need water and it points out that you are already dehydrated. Also, thirst stops before the body receives enough water. Various drinks containing sugars, alcohol and other substances only increase the need for water instead of decreasing the thirst they make things worse. That’s why you should drink plain, filtered and clean water which is the best way to satisfy the needs of the body. However, the water slowly penetrates the cells of the organism, so it is always good to drink before feeling thirsty. It is best to drink water in small sips all day. And remember to drink a glass of water right after you wake up, because of the night break of hydration.
